The Assembly is expected to pass the 2024 budget today.

In plenary today, Saturday, December 30, the National Assembly will approve the 2024 Appropriations Bill. 

The harmonized 2024 budget, as drafted by the National Assembly, will be approved by both the Red and Green chambers during their respective sessions. 

The plenary will now begin at precisely 1 pm, according to a statement released to media on Saturday morning by Senate Clerk Chinedu Akubueze. 

In a similar vein, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Clerk of the House of Representatives, echoed his colleague in the Senate when he declared that members would likewise convene by 1 pm on Saturday. 

"Good morning," was what he said. Kindly take note that the plenary session for today, December 30, 2023, has been moved up from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. 

Opeyemi Bamidele, the head of the Senate, had earlier declared that all federal politicians would have to shorten their vacations in order to guarantee that the 2024 appropriations bill passed quickly.

The Senate President gave Nigerians more information on the 2024 appropriations bill and guaranteed that the National Assembly would approve the budget on December 30. 

"We abridged time to make all ministries, departments, and agencies appear before the joint budget committee in order to ensure the budget's passage," he stated. 

Instead of going before the Senate first and the House of Representatives subsequently, this has already cut the time for the budget defense process in half. Harmonization is no longer necessary thanks to the resolution. We have essentially been able to save time. 

Additionally, we have been sitting longer than usual. On Saturdays, we have sat. We might even take a seat on Sunday as we get closer to another year. We barely allow ourselves three days to spend Christmas at home. 

We will meet again on December 29. We're determined and hopeful to pass before December 30. The 2024 appropriations law will be on the President's desk for assent on January 1, 2024, allowing for the implementation to begin in earnest, according to Bamidele.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tin-Can Island command revealed on Tuesday that the amount of money it made from products brought into the nation in 2023 was an incredible N716 billion. Compt.
